Middle Eastern Bakery Tours 6 March - 21 March... not for loafers!

450 people from all over Victoria attended last year’s tours, as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Our host and tour guide Monica Dullard (pictured below) involves everyone in the discoveries of Sydney Road and is "a real hoot".

Pauline and Brenda Murphy from Mooroolbark sent a special thankyou card. They wrote: “This was the most interesting, informative and entertaining 2 1/2 hours we could have ever spent. The variety and quality of the food was outstanding and we were overwhelmed by the kindness, hospitality and generosity of the traders themselves. After the tour we went back and explored bakeries again, bought some delicious food, had coffee and generally soaked up the atmosphere. We’ve all vowed to come back regularly. Our friends are organising their daughter’s 21st food there, next weekend!! We have told people about it already and will continue to recommend the tour and the Sydney Road shopping area to everyone we chat to!!”

SOS - Save Our Shops!

From July 1, clearways within 10km of the city centre will operate from 6.30-10am and 3-7pm. Most clearways presently operate from 7-9am and 4.30-6.30pm.

Consider the impact on local traders and on residents and sign the petition if you do not agree with the State Governments plan to extend clearway times within a 10km radius of Melbourne’s CBD.

See more information and photos of the Sydney Road protest below.

Thursday June 5th PROTEST - SAY NO CLEARWAY FOR SYDNEY ROAD

The State Government has announced an extension of the Clearway times from July 1st:

New times for Clearways:
East side 6.30am to 10am
West side 3pm to 7pm

This is yet another blow for small businesses who are already struggling with the reduction in peoples’ spending, due to the interest rate increases. Local shopping strips will lose business. With no public consultation or consideration to those who will ultimately be affected by these changes, the State Government should re consider this snap decision to extend clearway times and allow for proper public consultation and input from the many sectors in the Community and business Community, who will adversely bare the brunt of this announcement.

Cyclovia - Sunday April 13th, 8am to 2pm
The street was closed to traffic, but open to cyclists, pedestrians and entertainment for this Moreland City Council event.
Sydney Road Street Party Sunday 24th February 2008
It was a great turn out on Sunday for the Sydney Road Street Party. Everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks to all involved in a fabulous fashion parade and to Centre Stage Performing Arts School, Underbelly West African Drum and Dance, Stiletto Sisters, Ronnie Charles and the Retro Bandits and Zydeco Jump, who kept us entertained at the Victoria Street stage.
